Mayor Muriel Bowser is making a renewed—and unapologetically daring—push to legalize poker, blackjack, and business bingo in Washington, D.C., as a part of a broader technique to shore up the town’s funds and appeal to tourism within the face of financial uncertainty.
Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie, who chairs the Committee on Enterprise and Financial Growth, has emerged as a vocal proponent of the proposal.
Bowser’s proposal, formally launched because the Poker and Blackjack Gaming Authorization Act of 2025 (Council Invoice B26-0379), would allow regulated poker and blackjack tournaments in bars, accommodations, and different licensed venues for adults 18 and older. The invoice additionally contemplates increasing business bingo operations.
